The next date on the calendar is the peak fee window. Amazon says its Revenue Calculator, Profit Analytics dashboard and Fee and Economics Preview reports already show the peak rates, so check your top products before October 15. The sections below explain each change and what to do.

Fee news: what changed on January 15

Amazon's 2026 fee update raised FBA fees by an average of $0.08 per unit sold, which Amazon puts at less than 0.5% of an average item's selling price, after no increase in US referral or FBA fees in 2025. Most changes took effect on January 15, 2026. The average hides several targeted changes worth checking against your catalog.

2026 fee changes from Amazon's fee summary
Fee2026 change
Low-inventory-level feeApplies at the FNSKU level instead of parent ASIN; grocery now exempt
Inbound placement feeUp $0.05 per unit on average for standard size with minimal splits
Inbound defect feeSingle fee of $0.60 per unit on average for missing, late or misdelivered shipments
Aged inventory, 12 to 15 monthsMinimum rises $0.15 to $0.30 per unit per month
Aged inventory, over 15 monthsNew tier: $0.35 per unit or $7.90 per cubic foot, whichever is greater
AWD storage, West region$0.57 per cubic foot per month; East and South stay $0.48
Multi-Channel FulfillmentUp $0.30 per unit on average, for orders of 1 or 2 units
Buy with PrimeUp $0.24 per unit on average; Prime service fee minimum cut to $0.30 per order
Removal and disposal, aged items under 0.5 lbDown $0.20 per unit

Standard-size fulfillment fees moved by price band. Amazon's summary lists increases for small standard-size products of $0.12 per unit on average below $10, $0.25 between $10 and $50, and $0.51 above $50, with large standard-size items up $0.05 and $0.31 in the two higher bands and unchanged below $10. Products priced below $10 get a bigger Low-Price FBA discount, $0.86 per unit on average, up from $0.77.

Bulky items moved the other way. Amazon split the Large Bulky tier into Small Bulky and Large Bulky, removed the Ships in Product Packaging (SIPP) discount, and cut average fulfillment fees by $2.06 per unit for Small Bulky and $0.26 for Large Bulky; bulky items not eligible for SIPP now pay a packaging fee averaging $2.07 per unit.

Extra-large fees fell by $2.08 per unit on average, except the Overmax tier. Removal and disposal fees for standard-size aged items under 0.5 lb dropped by $0.20 per unit, and Buy with Prime fulfillment fees rose $0.24 per unit on average.

The aged inventory tiers matter most for slow sellers: stock older than 15 months now carries its own, higher monthly fee. Our guide to how Amazon FBA works covers the full fee picture, and our FBA inventory consulting service plans stock levels around these fees.

Fulfillment news: prep, commingling and surcharges

Three changes reshaped FBA in the first half of 2026. Amazon ended its US FBA prep and labeling service on January 1, so every unit now arrives prepped and labeled by the seller or a provider.

On March 31, Amazon ended commingling: brand representatives in Brand Registry can use manufacturer barcodes on eligible products, but all resellers, including authorized resellers, must put Amazon barcodes on every unit, and customers now receive only the seller's own units.

On April 17, a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge started applying to FBA fulfillment fees in the US and Canada and to Remote Fulfillment, and on May 2 it extended to Multi-Channel Fulfillment in the US and Canada and Buy with Prime in the US.

Reviews news: variation sharing narrowed

From February 12, 2026, Amazon changed how reviews are shared across a variation family, rolling out by category through May 31. Reviews are now shared only between variations with minor differences that do not affect function, and no longer appear on variations with significant differences, which Amazon warns may change star ratings and review counts.

Review sharing after the 2026 change, from Amazon's announcement
Variation typeReviews shared?
Color or pattern of the same productYes
Size with the same function, such as king and queen beddingYes
Secondary scent on a product not focused on scentYes
Model fitments, such as phone cases for different phonesYes
Variations with significant functional differencesNo

Amazon recommends checking variations in Manage All Inventory so each theme reflects the real difference, such as using a color variation for color rather than quantity, and says reviews will be re-shared for eligible products if you fix a variation theme later. Our guide to getting Amazon reviews covers the rest of the review rules.

Shipping and publishing news

For sellers who ship their own orders, Amazon began requiring accurate handling times on June 29, 2026. Your handling time counts as accurate when the actual time consistently matches the time set for each SKU, as part of the policy that requires a late shipment rate below 4%.

Amazon recommends Automated Handling Time, which sets handling times from recent shipping history.

Custom, handmade and heavy and bulky less-than-truckload shipments are excluded.

For authors, Kindle Direct Publishing widened its 70% eBook royalty band on Amazon.com from July 7, 2026, to list prices from $2.99 to $12.99. Our guides to Amazon FBM and what KDP means cover each in depth.

Tools news: Seller Assistant and the AI plugin

In September 2026, Amazon added workflows to Seller Assistant, the AI assistant first announced as Project Amelia: automations that monitor conditions and act within guardrails you set, with audit trails and your approval before actions.

It also launched a selling partner plugin for Amazon Quick and, in beta, Anthropic's Claude, for sellers in US stores, and offers primary account holders a free 12-month Amazon Quick Plus subscription through December 31, 2026.

Outside Seller Central, Amazon Mechanical Turk was set to close permanently on September 30, 2026, which matters for anyone who listed it as a side income. Our guides to Amazon Amelia and Amazon side hustles have the details.

What the 2026 news means for your business

The same news lands differently depending on how you sell. A brand selling through FBA mostly feels the fee changes and the new review sharing rules; a reseller feels the labeling work from the end of commingling; a seller who ships orders from their own warehouse feels the handling time rule.

Reading the updates by business model is the fastest way to know which ones need action this month and which only need a note in the calendar.

A good habit is a monthly fee review: pull your best sellers, check each against the Revenue Calculator with the current rates, and compare the result with your pricing. Fee changes arrive with at least 90 days of notice, Amazon says, which is enough time to stay ahead if someone reads the updates when they land. Our full account management service includes that review.
