What Walmart Brand Portal is

Walmart Brand Portal is a hub where brand owners manage their registered brands, intellectual property claims and authorized representatives on Walmart.com. Walmart says it built the portal so rights owners can better manage and protect their intellectual property on its marketplace, and to build a trusted platform for customers.

It is Walmart's counterpart to Amazon Brand Registry, with a narrower scope. The portal handles brand registration, infringement claims, content control through brand portfolio roles, and a protection dashboard. It also unlocks Sponsored Brands, Walmart Connect's premium search placement.

Who is eligible to register

Walmart says rights owners with registered trademarks are eligible to apply, and authorized third parties, such as a brand protection agency or legal representative, may be invited as account users. The trademark must be registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office; Walmart's FAQ says Brand Portal currently accepts USPTO trademarks, and that its services are available in the United States.

The registered trademark rule is the main difference from Amazon. Amazon Brand Registry accepts a pending or registered trademark from the trademark office of any country with an Amazon store, so many brands enrolled on Amazon while their application was still pending. On Walmart, they wait for registration. Our brand protection service covers both programs.

How to register a brand in Walmart Brand Portal

Walmart says all you need is your trademark registration number, company information and a verifiable email address. Sellers can create the account with their Seller Center credentials and then move between both platforms with one sign in.

Registering a brand in Walmart Brand Portal: sign in with Seller Center, confirm business information, enter the trademark registration number and brand name, accept the terms, submit, and track the status in the portal. The trademark details must match the registration exactly
  1. Go to Brand Portal and select Use Seller Center Account, or sign up with a Brand Portal login if you are not a seller.
  2. Confirm your business information and continue.
  3. Enter your trademark registration number and brand name, consistent with what is on your trademark registration.
  4. Agree to the Terms of Use, confirm the information, and submit.
  5. Walmart reviews the application; log in to Brand Portal to see its status.

Walmart suppliers, including Drop Ship Vendors and Warehouse suppliers with a Supplier One account, can connect their Brand Portal accounts. Walmart says brands registered in Supplier One can be linked, or registered again in Brand Portal if the accounts cannot be connected. If you already had a Brand Portal account and link it to Seller Center, only the Seller Center login works afterwards.

Filing intellectual property claims

Through Brand Portal you can report legitimate claims of intellectual property infringement for items on Walmart.com, which Walmart lists as copyright, trademark, patent and counterfeit. Walmart says claims are submitted with a simple form, and rights owners without an account can use Walmart's public webform instead.

Claims Walmart accepts

  • Trademark infringement
  • Copyright infringement
  • Patent infringement
  • Counterfeit products

What Walmart will not act on

  • Violations of exclusive distribution agreements
  • Authorized or unauthorized reseller arrangements
  • Contract disputes between sellers and suppliers

That second list is where many brands are disappointed. Walmart says it runs a unified catalog, so resellers can sell on the same listing, and it does not intervene in reseller arrangements; it encourages brands to contact sellers directly, from the seller's name on the listing. An IP claim must be a real infringement, not a way to remove a reseller the brand did not authorize.

Brand portfolio: acting brand owners and authorized resellers

Brand portfolio is how a brand controls its content on Walmart Marketplace. Walmart says you can assign one seller as the acting brand owner, or several sellers as authorized resellers, to represent your brand's content on items. Approved sellers' content is prioritized over other sellers, and the acting brand owner's content has priority over authorized resellers.

Approved sellers also get access to all Walmart Connect advertisement types and can build Brand Shops. Walmart says benefits typically reach a seller about 24 hours after assignment.

Sellers request a role from the Brand Manager page in Seller Center, choosing acting brand owner or authorized reseller and adding a letter of authorization or other evidence of their relationship with the brand. The brand reviews requests in the Brand benefit requests tab, can reject and allow a reapplication, and can assign a seller directly in the Brand Portfolio tab.

The protection dashboard

Brand Portal's analytics dashboard shows the proactive protections Walmart applies to your brand and listings, refreshed weekly. It counts listings and offers Walmart removed for policy reasons and the times it blocked changes to item attributes carrying your content. It does not count removals from your own claims, and shows no item level detail.

Walmart groups unpublished listings into three types: risk, for risk factors in listing content or seller information; compliance, for policy violations such as prohibited products; and business violation, for breaches of business policies such as prohibited categories.

Walmart adds an important detail: it can only protect content for item attributes where the brand owner has provided content. Brands that fill in every relevant attribute get more protection; gaps are where other sellers' content can still appear.

Using the portal to protect a brand

Registration is the start, not the protection. A brand that sells on Walmart's marketplace gets the most from Brand Portal with a simple routine: complete content on every item, the right sellers in the brand portfolio, and a regular process to monitor product listings and act on real infringement.

Unauthorized sellers are the most common frustration, and Walmart's answer is clear: it does not intervene in reseller arrangements. Brand Portal helps indirectly. Complete brand content and assigned roles mean your content and your chosen sellers take priority on the listing, whoever else sells there. Counterfeit products and trademark misuse are a different matter, and those go through a claim.
