Amazon product page: a shared page, and the parts you control
An Amazon product page, which Amazon calls the product detail page, is where shoppers decide whether to buy. Unlike most online stores, it is shared: every seller of the same product offers it on one page, and Amazon decides what the page shows. This guide takes the Amazon product page apart, section by section, with the rules Amazon sets for each.
Key takeaways
- A product detail page covers one unique product and can carry offers from several sellers and from Amazon.
- Amazon chooses what the page shows from manufacturer and seller contributions; each seller controls only its own offer.
- Titles are limited to 75 characters including spaces for most products, and item highlights to 125 characters.
- Pages must not contain contact details, links, promotions, watermarks, time-sensitive information or HTML beyond line breaks.
- Duplicate pages are not allowed, and a different brand or trademark needs a new ASIN rather than an edit to an existing one.
What an Amazon product page is
Amazon's help defines a product detail page as the place where a customer discovers a unique product sold on Amazon. It can include one or more offers from sellers or from Amazon. The page is a shared space: it shows the attributes common to all offers, such as the title, images and product details, while each seller creates and controls its own offer, including price, shipping options and condition.
That makes the Amazon product page different from a product page on your own website. You contribute to it, but Amazon chooses what information to show, based on contributions from manufacturers and sellers. Brands enrolled in Brand Registry have more influence over their own pages, which is one reason sellers with their own brand enroll.

The parts of an Amazon product page
| Part | What it shows | Who controls it |
|---|---|---|
| Title | Brand, product type and key attributes | Contributors; Amazon decides what shows |
| Images and video | Main image on white, then detail and lifestyle images | Contributors, brand owner via Brand Registry |
| Price and offer | Featured Offer, delivery date, seller | Each seller for its own offer |
| Bullet points | Key features, up to five on the page | Contributors |
| Item highlights | Short descriptive features, 125 characters | Contributors |
| Product description | Uses, benefits, specifications | Contributors |
| A+ Content | Rich images, text and comparison charts | Brand owner in Brand Registry |
| Product details | Category attributes like size or zoom | Contributors |
| Variations | Sizes, colors and other options | Listing owner, within variation rules |
| Reviews and ratings | Customer reviews and star rating | Customers; Amazon calculates the rating |
Some categories add their own attributes: Amazon's example is cameras, which show optical zoom and maximum resolution, attributes other categories do not need. Our guide to Amazon listing optimization covers how to write each field.
Offers on the product page and the Featured Offer
Because many sellers can offer the same product, the page has to choose which offer to show first. Amazon calls this the Featured Offer, displayed in the Offer Display near the top of the page; older guides call it the Buy Box. Other offers appear in the list of other sellers. Your content work helps every seller on the page; your offer decides whether the sale is yours.
Our guide to wholesale products to sell on Amazon covers the factors that decide the Featured Offer on shared pages.
Rules every detail page must follow
Amazon's product detail page rules exist so each page covers a single unique item and gives customers a clear, consistent experience. Breaking them can get a listing suppressed or, for deliberately misleading listings, lead to corrective action on the account up to termination of selling privileges.
What a product page must do
- Cover one unique product, with no duplicate page
- Use a new ASIN for a different brand or trademark
- Follow the Quick Start Style Guide and category style guides
- Keep titles within 75 characters for most product types
- Categorize the product accurately
- Mention any extra items essential to how the product works
What a product page must not contain
- Phone numbers, addresses, emails or website links
- Promotions, adverts, or watermarks on images
- Time-sensitive information such as event dates
- HTML or JavaScript, except line breaks in the description
- All capital letters, or emojis and symbols at the start of words
- Reviews, requests for reviews, or false product IDs
Amazon also says product information must be accurate and not mislead customers about a product's qualities, and that images must meet its image standards. Our guide to Amazon brand guidelines covers the brand and trademark side of these rules.
Images on the product page
The main image is usually the first thing a shopper sees, in search results and at the top of the page. Amazon's image standards call for the product on a pure white background, and its style guide page notes that a lifestyle image is allowed as the main image only in a few product types: beds, bed frames, mattresses, rugs, rug pads and sofas.
The images after the main one are where you show the product in use, its size, its details and what comes in the box. Brands in Brand Registry can also add A+ Content further down the page, which Amazon describes as rich text, images, videos and comparison charts, free for enrolled brands.
Main image
Product on pure white; lifestyle only in six product types.
Detail images
Close-ups of features and materials.
Scale
The product next to something familiar, or with dimensions.
In use
Who uses it and where.
In the box
Every item the customer receives.
Video
How it works, where the category allows it.
Variations, reviews and hidden fields on the page
Products with variations, such as size or color, share one product page. Amazon's search glossary explains the structure: a parent ASIN holds the relationship together as the generic product, and each child ASIN is a specific variation, such as a pair of jeans in large and black. The parent itself is not searchable or buyable; shoppers land on a child and switch between variations on the page.
Reviews follow the variation family, with a 2026 change. From February 12, 2026, Amazon shares reviews only across variations with minor differences, such as color, a size with the same function, or model fitments, and no longer across variations with significant differences. Setting up product variations with the right theme now decides which reviews each child shows.
| Page element | Where it comes from | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Variation selector | Parent and child ASIN relationship | Themes match the real difference, such as color or size |
| Star rating and reviews | Customer reviews, shared by variation rules | Variations with significant differences no longer share |
| Customer questions and answers | Shoppers and other customers | Recurring questions point to missing information |
| Search terms | Hidden generic keyword field | Not shown on the page, but used for search |
| Product name and brand name | Title and brand attributes | Brand spelled the same everywhere |
Customer questions on the page are free research: the same question asked three times usually means the bullets or images leave it unanswered. Adding the answer to the listing helps the next customer, and reduces returns from buyers who guessed wrong. Our guide to Amazon backend keywords covers the hidden search terms field.
How to improve an Amazon product page
- Open the page on a phone and a computer, and read it as a shopper who has never heard of the product; on mobile, the main image, title, price and first bullets carry most of the decision.
- Fix anything that breaks the rules: title length, capitals, contact details, promotional text.
- Fill in every product detail attribute your category offers, since incomplete attributes hide products from filtered searches.
- Improve the main image, the first three bullets and the description, in that order.
- If you are in Brand Registry, add A+ Content and test titles or images with Manage Your Experiments.
Changes can take up to 72 hours to appear, so judge results after several days. Sessions and Unit Session Percentage in Business Reports show whether the page converts better, and advertising sends shoppers to the page faster while you test; the quality of the page decides how many of them buy, whatever the pricing or ad spend. Our listing optimization service rewrites and tests product pages for brands.
Common problems on the page
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Your edits do not show | Amazon chose another contribution, or latency | Wait 72 hours; check Brand Registry ownership |
| Listing suppressed | A rule broken, such as title length or missing image | Fix the flagged attribute in Manage Inventory |
| Not found in search | Missing browse node, or a parent ASIN | Assign a specific category; check a child ASIN |
| Two pages for one product | Duplicate page created | Duplicates are not allowed; request a merge |
| Wrong brand on the page | Trademark edited on an existing ASIN | A different brand needs its own new ASIN |
If a product page is not showing what you submitted and you own the brand, Brand Registry is usually the answer. Our guides to Amazon ranking factors and product listing on Amazon cover searchability and listing setup.
